If you’ve read my blog for a while now, you would know that I write letters to my boys on their birthdays and stick them in a big envelope that I have in my closet. Why do I do this? The same reason I want to put a treasure map in our will for the boys, because it’s awesome.
I’d never copy the letters onto here because they are just for them. At least some things in this technology crazed world has to stay sacred. Not shared. Last year, I put on some clips from the letter. So this year I think I’ll do the same.
DEAR SMUDGE Mc SMUDGE PANTS 2016,
It is your 2nd birthday.
I look forward to seeing all the things you grow into. Yet I can’t help but hope that you will be able to keep some of the best qualities that you hold right now. Qualities I was never quite sure fit for a 1 year old baby. Well, you weren’t a 1 year old baby. You were a 1 year old man.
Growing up makes people so jaded.
I hope you never forget:
Being silly is fun.
If someone is making you dinner, ask if they need help.
Don’t let people push you around.
Hang out with your brother.
Laugh A LOT.
Appreciate your family.
Sitting in chairs is for societies sheep.
Pay attention to what you Dad does, he is a good man.
Call your Aunt.
Wear a hat and sunscreen to the beach white boy.
Laugh some more.
Be kind to animals.
Take care of people smaller than you.
Eat Kale, but eat cake too.
Go on adventures with your friends.
Only celebrate your birthday with people who don’t mind that you chose to not wear clothes the entire day.
Know everyday how much I love you.
Then laugh even more.
